Cala D Or
Cala D'Or (population 3,900) is a popular resort with the main center of Cala D'Or and the adjacent areas of Cala Egos and Cala Ferrera. Cala D'Or is located 60 km from the island capital of Palma.
Due to the rugged coastal cliffs, the place many sandy coves such as Cala Serena, Cala Ferrera, Cala Esmeralda, the largest beach of Cala Gran, Cala D'Or, Cala d'es Forti, Cala Galera and Cala Egos.
From May to October brings a mini train which tourists regularly to the various beaches. The center with its pedestrian zone is very popular and busy, as this is where a large number of shops, bars and restaurants, some with international cuisine.
The Marina Porto Cari in the bay of Cala Llonga exclusive yachts and charter boats berth and provides both protection from storms and a large number of restaurants and bars of different directions.
The nearest major town is inland Santanyí. The nearest town of Porto Pedro is five minutes away by car. There is a nature reserve with the Double Bay Mondragó. This is recommended for an extended day at the beach.
History
The place is characterized by its flat cubic Ibiza style in which the buildings are traditionally painted white. This was due to the Ibizan architect Josep Costa Ferrera, who planned the town in the early 1930s and drew inspiration from his home, introduced and is still followed today.
