Soller
Sóller is situated in the northwest of Mallorca in the Serra Tramuntana and has a port which provides access to the Mediterranean. Sóller is the oldest railway in the world, which is in operation since 1912 and connects the village with Palma. The station hall is used for exhibitions. The people of Sóller assert itself, and nowhere else, the fruit is sweet, golden, the oil due to the old olive trees in the mountains and never taste the shrimp better than from the sea along the cliff. Ideal for hiking.
History
Sóller has always lived by its orange groves and olive trees, under which the Moors called it the city of gold. End of the 18th Century, many French people came to Soller, who fled before the war. They brought over the sea, the fruit and the oil to France, which was rich in Sóller. But like everywhere on the island made the phylloxera destroyed everything and many people fled to South America. Many but returned again and shaped just like the people who remained, the town of Sóller. Today you can see houses in the French style, colonial style and classicism.
The wealth was widely known, so that the mid-15th Century pirates came and Sóller laid in ashes. Then a bulwark was built, which is fending off further attacks. Still in one piece battles are replayed.
